Semi trucks are built to handle long hauls, heavy loads, and tough conditions, but even the most durable engines can overheat if something goes wrong. Overheating is more than just an inconvenience—it can lead to costly downtime, engine damage, and roadside breakdowns. At Kaos Truck & Trailer Repair, we provide expert roadside semi truck cooling system repair in the greater Las Vegas area. Here are four common reasons that semi trucks overheat and why they need to be addressed quickly to keep your rig on the road. Low Coolant Levels Coolant plays a vital role in absorbing and transferring heat away from the engine. If the coolant level drops too low due to leaks, the system can’t perform its job effectively. This can lead to a rapid rise in engine temperature, especially under heavy loads or in hot weather. Regularly checking and maintaining coolant levels can prevent overheating caused by this easily avoidable issue. Faulty Thermostat The thermostat regulates the flow of coolant. When it’s working properly, it opens and closes to maintain the optimal engine temperature. However, if the thermostat becomes stuck in the closed position, coolant can’t circulate, causing the engine to heat up quickly. A faulty thermostat is a small part with big consequences and should be inspected as soon as signs of overheating appear. Malfunctioning Water Pump The water pump is responsible for moving coolant throughout the engine and cooling system. If it fails or loses efficiency due to wear, the coolant won’t circulate as it should. This lack of circulation results in hot spots forming within the engine and can cause it to overheat. A malfunctioning water pump often needs immediate replacement to prevent serious engine damage. Radiator Problems The radiator helps remove heat from the coolant before it cycles back through the engine. If it becomes clogged with debris, corroded, or develops leaks, it can no longer perform this function effectively. Keeping the radiator clean and in good condition is essential for preventing overheating. 24/7 Roadside Semi Truck Repair in Southern Nevada When you need roadside truck repair in Las Vegas and the surrounding area, contact Kaos Truck & Trailer Repair at 702-745-2910 .
